Who is eligible to apply for the Eagle Awards?
Applicants must be members of ASBO International and employed full-time as school business officials. Candidates nearing retirement must be employed full-time as of June 1 of the award year. Current members of the ASBO International Board of Directors are not eligible.
May I apply for the Eagle Award more than once?
You may apply as many times as you wish. However, if you have already received the Distinguished Eagle Award, you may only be considered for the International Eagle Award. International Eagle Award recipients may not apply again.
What are the benefits of receiving an Eagle Award?
- A scholarship to present to a high school senior: $5,000 scholarship for the International Eagle Award recipient and $2,500 for each Distinguished Eagle Award recipient.
- Attendance at the Eagle Institute in the following year, all-expenses-paid.
- A paid registration for ASBO International’s Annual Meeting & Expo.
- The prestigious crystal Eagle Award.
- The elegant Eagle Award pin.
- Recognition in ASBO International publications and media

How do I nominate someone for an Eagle Award?
To nominate someone, work directly with the nominee to provide comprehensive information to complete the application.
May more than one letter of reference be submitted?
Should more than one letter of reference be submitted, ASBO International will select one letter to forward to the selection panel.
Will ASBO notify me when the application materials are received?
ASBO will email candidates when materials are received. If you do not receive notification within one week of submittal, please contact eagleawards@asbointl.org.
What format is acceptable for the professional resume?
The standard resume format is best. Please also include:
- Professional activities with ASBO International, ASBO affiliates, and other associations.
- Educational and professional credentials and awards.
- Publications and presentations on school business.
Who serves on the Eagle Awards Selection Panel?
An independent panel of judges evaluates the applications. ASBO International staff and board members do not serve on the selection panel.
Will all candidates be notified after the selection process?
All candidates and nominators are notified of the selection panel’s decisions.
Who will be notified when I receive the award?
Recipients will be asked to complete a media announcement form listing the individuals and newspapers that should be notified. In addition, ASBO International notifies each recipient’s superintendent and ASBO affiliate executive director.
What types of media announcements are made?
Your achievement is published in ASBO International’s School Business Affairs magazine and Accents newsletter, on the ASBO International website, and in the Eagle Awards brochure. The Eagle Awards video and signage at the Annual Meeting & Expo also announce the award recipients. ASBO produces two press releases: a general release that announces all recipients and an individual press release for the recipient to distribute as he or she wishes.
Which activities at ASBO’s Annual Meeting & Expo must Eagle Award recipients attend?
Recipients are required to attend four activities at the Annual Meeting & Expo: The Eagle Awards Ceremony rehearsal, the Eagle Awards Ceremony, the Eagle Awards Reception, and the Eagle Awards Dinner, hosted by AXA Equitable.
Are travel and hotel expenses to attend the Annual Meeting & Expo reimbursed by ASBO International?
All transportation, hotel, meals, and miscellaneous expenses are the responsibility of the Eagle Award recipients. Eagle Award recipients receive a complimentary registration to attend the Annual Meeting & Expo.
Are family members and colleagues able to attend the Eagle Awards Ceremony, even if they are not ASBO International members?
Guests of Eagle Award recipients may receive a complimentary day pass to attend the ceremony if they are not registered as annual meeting participants. Award recipients will be asked to provide ASBO International with the names of their guests in advance.
How is the Eagle Award scholarship disbursed and can it be given to more than one person?
Eagle Award recipients provide the name of the scholarship recipient(s) or a scholarship foundation, and ASBO International disburses a check as requested. Eagle Award recipients may divide the scholarship amount into smaller parts in whatever denominations the award recipients believe are most beneficial (e.g., the $2,500 may be divided into two scholarships).
What expenses are covered for the Eagle Institute?
Eagle Award recipients receive complimentary registration, hotel, and meals at the Eagle Institute. Expenses incurred for travel to the Eagle Institute will also be reimbursed.
May an award recipient choose which summer to attend the Eagle Institute?
The invitation to attend the Eagle Institute applies only to the summer immediately following the year in which the Eagle Award was received.
