Share Your Expertise in School Business Affairs
ASBO International is committed to delivering quality resources and publications to our members. Understanding the importance of presenting diverse perspectives, first-hand successes, and varied opinions on current trends, we invite you to share your unique experiences and expertise with ASBO members by writing for School Business Affairs (SBA).
Writing for the SBA can expand your network, strengthen your credibility, and build your public profile. To be considered, please review our editorial calendar and writer guidelines below.
2017 Editorial Calendar
With 11 themed issues published annually, SBA provides a comprehensive overview of school finance issues and trends including funding sources, accounting, budgeting, facility management, pupil transportation, healthcare, educational leadership, and more.
Audience and Topics
SBA is written primarily for school business officials, but readership extends to superintendents, principals, university professors, school board members, government officials, and other school central office administrators. Our readers enjoy articles featuring specific management and leadership techniques, practical cost-saving methods, best practices in school finance and operations, and current trends in education.
Create your article in Microsoft Word, double spaced. Please do not use headers, footers, automatic page numbers, or footnotes.
Typical feature articles range from 1,000 to 1,500 words, although length is flexible depending on the subject. Special feature columns, including Management Briefcase and Legal Perspectives, are 700 to 1,000 words.
Articles should be clear and concise, written using jargon-free vocabulary and focusing on your personal experience or field research. Don’t be afraid to use a conversational tone to capture the reader’s attention. SBA articles serve as tools for school business officials and must never promote specific products or services.
Please include a suggested title to best reflect your article’s subject matter. Also include your name, title, and contact information (address, phone, email) on the manuscript.
If your article includes images or graphics, please include them in a separate document clearly marked with figure number and a brief description. Do not embed photos, graphs, bar charts, or other graphic elements within your text.
Please inform us if it was previously published or submitted for publication elsewhere.
Ready to submit? Email our SBA editor with your article (and any related materials) as an attachment.
We make every attempt to acknowledge receipt of manuscripts within two weeks. If accepted, articles are tentatively assigned publication in specific issues. Articles that are not accepted will be returned with an explanation upon request.
